How Sold My Stuff collects, uses, and protects your information.
Last Updated: January 1, 2025
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us when you create an account, use our marketplace, or contact us.
Account & Profile Information: Your name, email address, phone number, display name, bio, and profile photo. Your shipping address (street, city, state, ZIP code, country) is collected when you make a purchase or set it in your profile settings.
Seller Information: If you choose to become a seller, we collect your shop name and shop profile. To verify your identity, we collect a photo of your government-issued ID and a selfie photo. These are reviewed manually by our team for seller verification purposes only.
Marketplace Activity: Information about your listings, purchases, bids, live show participation, chat messages, reviews, reports, and support activity.
Payment Information: We do not store your full credit card or bank account numbers. Payment processing is handled by our third-party payment processors (such as Stripe and PayPal). We retain transaction identifiers, payment status, and payout account references needed to operate the marketplace.
Shipping Information: When you purchase an item, your shipping address and related order information are shared with shipping providers to generate labels and track deliveries.
Device & Technical Information: We collect basic technical information such as browser type and authentication session tokens needed to provide and secure the service.
Seller Verification Information
To help maintain trust in our marketplace, sellers are required to complete identity verification before listing items. This involves submitting a photo of a government-issued ID and a selfie photo.
How we use verification materials: Your ID and selfie are reviewed manually by our team to confirm your identity. We do not use biometric facial recognition, automated face matching, or identity-scoring algorithms. Verification materials are used solely for seller review according to our verification process.
Stripe and PayPal verification: Our payment processors (Stripe and PayPal) conduct their own separate compliance verification (such as KYC) when you set up a payout account. Sold My Stuff's manual seller verification is separate from and does not replace the compliance requirements of these financial providers.

How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described in this policy:
- With other users: Your display name, avatar, shop name, listings, and public activity are visible to other marketplace users.
- With service providers: We share information with the third-party providers described below to operate the marketplace.
- For safety and legal compliance: We may share information to investigate fraud, enforce our terms, respond to legal requests, or protect the rights and safety of our users.
- In connection with a business transfer: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
Service Providers
We use third-party service providers to operate key marketplace functions. These providers process information on our behalf under their own terms and privacy policies:
- Payment processors (Stripe, PayPal): Process buyer payments and seller payouts. They receive payment and identity information necessary to process transactions and maintain compliance.
- Shipping providers (Shippo): Generate shipping labels and provide tracking. They receive shipping addresses and package information.
- Live streaming infrastructure (LiveKit): Powers live show video and audio. Live show participants' video and audio are transmitted through this provider during active shows.
Payments
Buyer payments are processed by Stripe and PayPal. We do not store your full card numbers or bank account details — these are handled directly by the payment processors. We do store transaction identifiers, payment status, and order records needed to operate the marketplace and handle disputes.
Seller payouts are processed through Stripe Connect or PayPal, depending on the seller's chosen payout method. Stripe and PayPal each conduct their own identity and compliance verification for payout accounts.
Shipping Providers
When you purchase an item, your shipping address and order information are shared with our shipping provider (Shippo) and the selected carrier to generate a shipping label and provide tracking. Tracking numbers and delivery status are stored in your order records.
Safety, Fraud Prevention & Moderation
We use marketplace activity data — including listings, messages, bids, reports, and live show participation — to prevent fraud, enforce our policies, and moderate the marketplace. This includes reviewing reported content, investigating disputes, and taking moderation actions such as warnings, suspensions, or bans when our policies are violated.
Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Transaction records, payment records, and other financial data are retained as long as necessary to comply with legal and accounting obligations, even after account deletion. Moderation records and dispute records may be retained to enforce our policies and protect the marketplace.
Seller verification materials (ID and selfie photos) are retained for the period necessary to complete verification and for reasonable audit purposes. You may contact us to request deletion of verification materials after verification is complete, subject to legal retention requirements.
Account Deletion
You can delete your account from Profile & Settings. Account deletion removes your profile data and deactivates your active listings. Certain records — including completed transactions, payment records, dispute records, and moderation records — are retained as required by law and for legitimate business purposes such as accounting, fraud prevention, and dispute resolution. These retained records are not associated with an active public profile after deletion.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted authentication tokens and access controls. However, no system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data.
Your Choices
You can update or change your profile information, shipping address, and notification preferences at any time from Profile & Settings. You can block other users from interacting with you. You can delete your account, subject to the retention of certain records described above.
You may opt out of certain notifications using the notification preference toggles in your settings.
Cookies & Analytics
We use essential cookies and session tokens to maintain your authentication and provide core marketplace functionality. We do not use advertising cookies or sell your data to advertising networks. We may collect basic analytics about how the marketplace is used to improve our services.
Children's Privacy
The marketplace is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
